Samus's mission to Zebes as a five-part comic, timed to the game's release and ending the month it arrived.
Chapter four, 'Samus's Story', the one chapter of the serial scanned at full page size. A Chozo elder tells how Samus came to have Chozo blood: the peaceful, undefended Chozo civilisation, the space pirates' raid on the K-2L colony that left a single child alive, and how they took her to Zebes, raised her, gave her their blood and a suit that fits like a second skin. She lost, the elder reckons, because her mind was on the Metroid hatchling that believes she is its mother — which Mother Brain cannot bear, and which Ridley plans to cure by capturing Chairman Keaton and Chief Officer Hardy as bait and destroying Samus in front of it. Samus wakes, learns of the hostages, and reaches for the healing power of the Power Bombs, which could as easily destroy her.
