Donkey Kong took the cover as the Game Boy remake that turned four arcade screens into a hundred puzzle stages, with Beauty and the Beast, Firestriker, Illusion of Gaia, Fatal Fury 2 and Saturday Night Slam Masters inside. A Secret of Mana special began a multi-part strategy series, and the Super Game Boy got its first feature. Monster Max and Stop That Roach filled the Game Boy pages.

Samus's mission to Zebes as a five-part comic, timed to the game's release and ending the month it arrived.
Chapter five, 'The Final Battle', the month the game arrived. Healed by the Power Bomb, Samus takes the old bird's warning — concentrate on the battle, don't let your mind wander to the hatchling — and returns to Zebes to find the pirates cloned into an army; she rips through them until Ridley makes a tactical retreat and leaves her to Mother Brain. The hatchling, grown huge on Mother Brain's beta rays, gives itself to save her, and Samus makes Mother Brain pay in spades before the entire planet goes up. The last Metroid; a partner's offer from Houston — in your dreams — and The End.
