Benimaru Itoh's serial ran alongside the game, with the Arwing pilots as the magazine drew them: Fox, Falco, Peppy and Slippy against Andross, with a subplot the game never had.

Chapter five. Fox and Fara go through the black hole together, past the graveyard of lost ships, and come out over Venom — Fox swears he followed his father into the light. Falco, Peppy and Slippy make it through on Slippy's tracking device, and Slippy works out what Andross's base runs on: Herbert, the android pig they captured on Papetoon, is a data bank and the power source. They make a withdrawal, the base goes up in a massive explosion, and four Arwings escape while General Pepper considers parades and medals.
