Batman Returns
Batman Returns took the cover, with The Lost Vikings, Shadowrun and a Super NES sports roundup inside. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening led the Game Boy pages, and a feature covered the Super Mario Bros. movie ahead of its release. Zen: Intergalactic Ninja, Ring Rage and Great Greed rounded out the handheld coverage.

Nester carried on alone after Howard left Nintendo in 1991, walking into one game a month and finding out the hard way that reading the strategy pages would have helped.
MechWarrior, in the Zero-Zero Club where no mechs are allowed. Two grizzled pilots trade stories of overheated mechs — the old thermal-coupling sock trick, blasting from underwater to stay cool — and Nester tops them: his Nexus overheated on the lava planet of Cawdor with no power, no weapons and no ice in the fridge, and all he had was a 120,000 C-bill contract, an old NP and his hyper-superior brain. He spent the whole contract on sun screen, and still got burned.
Star Fox

Benimaru Itoh's serial ran alongside the game, with the Arwing pilots as the magazine drew them: Fox, Falco, Peppy and Slippy against Andross, with a subplot the game never had.
Chapter four. Fox wants to reach Andross through a black hole, using the time-slip theory to make a four-dimensional warp, and Falco has to knock him down and lock him in solitary to stop him. The General tells the rest: Fox Senior, Corneria's finest pilot, volunteered to test Andross's gravity bomb and was sucked into a newly collapsed black hole with half the asteroid belt. Slippy reckons the Arwing's G induction coils can be tripled for the attempt, needing the best pilot in the system — and it's Fara, not Fox, who climbs into the modified ship.
