Many evil men from your world were drawn here. They were transformed into monsters because of their evil thoughts and emotions. I was one of them...

Nintendo Power issue 37 profile of David Faustino, page 109

This issue featured an interview with David Faustino — American actor (born 1974).

Bud Bundy on Married… with Children, six seasons in, a blue belt in Tae Kwon Do and first cast at three months old. He insisted he was nothing like Bud, watched the show as a fan, and got Contra III before the shops did, though his little brother Michael, whom the neighbourhood called Mario, was the real player in the house; a producer had handed the whole cast Game Boys for a tour, and the flight was apparently a sight. He played Bud for all eleven seasons, then found a second signature role a generation of kids knows him for: the voice of Mako in The Legend of Korra.

Before you know it someone says, 'Looks like it's going to be a Nintendo night.'

David Faustino, Nintendo Power #37

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Chapter 6 of 12 · 16 pages

Shotaro Ishinomori's retelling of the Super NES game, drawn in the same year it was released and following Link from the rainy night at the castle to the Dark World.

Chapter six. Agahnim tells Link he has just witnessed Zelda's last moments and freezes him like a statue with his magic, but the Master Sword hums in Link's hand and breaks the spell, and the wizard falls — well met, hero. His defeat restores nothing: with his final breath he sends Link after Zelda into the Dark World, where a pig-faced monster who was once a man from the Light World explains what happened here. This was the Golden Land where the Triforce was hidden, until Ganondorf the thief stumbled on it, and his wish turned it to a land of evil; to restore it, Link must defeat the thief and reclaim the Triforce.

Super Mario Adventures

Chapter 6 of 12 · 8 pages · from p. 62

Charlie Nozawa's twelve-part comic, in which Bowser proposes to the Princess, Yoshi eats everything in reach and Luigi gets no respect. Collected in a book by Viz the following year.

Chapter six. The wedding: Bowser has Mario captive and Luigi, in the Princess's tiara and Floyd's cosmetics, takes her place at the altar, which goes as well as a Koopa wedding can. The real Princess, waking from her fall, remembers Mario crash-landing at the castle and turns herself in to keep Luigi's plan alive, telling Bowser she's fallen for him after all. Mario, meanwhile, is bound for the Piranhas — but Bowser knows a good place that delivers, and the chapter ends on a pizza party.

Nester's Adventures

One-page strip · from p. 100

Nester carried on alone after Howard left Nintendo in 1991, walking into one game a month and finding out the hard way that reading the strategy pages would have helped.

RoboNester, the tin-plated lawman of RoboCop 3, patrols where no ordinary officer dares, arresting a dog for defacing a fire hydrant and walking through gunfire, and his hardened exoskeleton withstands everything but rust — the BIOS readout puts his brain at 2% rust damage, with a power-up capsule in the next block. He knows from the game that a power-up passed can't be gone back for, so he takes the ledges slowly, reciting 'you have the right to an attorney and a towel by jury' until the technicians open his head: rusted brains again.
